Here is the list of the ten Philippine universities recognized in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) – the largest number of Filipino higher educational institutions (HEIs) appearing on the annual global list since it started 19 editions ago.
Four HEIs officially ranked in this year’s THE WUR as Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and Mapua University (Mapua) debuted on the world list alongside the previously ranked state-run University of the Philippines (UP) and De La Salle University (DLSU).
The top 4 Philippine universities are among the record 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions on the rankings which have gained a worldwide following from students, teachers, governments, and industry experts.
Six universities from the Philippines appear for the first time as Reporter institutions, a status first introduced last year as the mark for HEIs that provided data but did not meet the eligibility criteria to receive a rank. The 4 state universities and 2 private educational institutions agreed to be displayed in the final table to be among the 526 universities listed with “reporter” status this year.
ADMU first appeared as a Reporter institution last year before officially debuting in THE WUR global rankings as the leader of the ten Philippine universities appearing on the list this year – overtaking 6-time leader UP and DLSU which was ranked 4 times before the new report.
The universities featured in THE World University Rankings 2023 report released on October 12, 2022, are ranked based on 13 performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five pillars: Teaching (30%); Research (30%); Citations (30%); Industry Income (7.5%); and International Outlook (2.5%).
THE WUR-listed Philippine universities are:

The Jesuit-run Ateneo de Manila University is divided into two major schools of higher education: the Loyola School, located in Quezon City, and the Professional School, located in the Rockwell and Salcedo Campuses in Makati City.
