Echo Philippines has won the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) World Championship, dethroning fellow Filipinos and defending champions Blacklist International in their grand finals match held Sunday in Indonesia.
Echo Philippines swept the M4 final series with a 4-0 score in the best-of-7 match at the Tennis Indoor Senayan Jakarta on January 15, 2023.
Nevertheless, both teams continued the Philippines’ historic run on the e-sports world stage as the title has been kept by the country’s champions for three consecutive world championships since M2.
Echo took home the $300,000 prize money and championship title while Blacklist International ended their M4 World Championship run in 2nd place.
Blacklist International also made history as the first team to secure a grand finals slot twice in the MLBB World Championship under the leadership of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Season 10 Regular Season Most Valuable Player (MVP) Johnmar (OhMyV33nus) Villaluna.
Meanwhile, Echo’s Jungler Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno became a two-time MLBB World Champion. His former team, Bren Esports, won the M2 World Championship.
After a clean sweep and spectacular performance, Echo’s gold laner Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales was hailed as the Finals MVP and received $10,000 prize money. The teams’ EXP laner Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya also showcased fearless team fight dives and zoning with a Filipino-inspired in-game hero Lapu-Lapu in grand finals game 3.
Echo Philippines will be defending its championship in front of the home crowd as MLBB developer Moonton has named the Philippines as the M5 World Championship host in December later this year.
