Saint Benilde Romancon Dance Company (Romancon) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) made the Philippines proud Sunday as the student group won the All Generation Championships (AGC) World Final in South Korea.
The Benildeans’ hip hop routine lifted the Philippines’ representatives to 1st place with a total score of 9.245, besting Thailand’s Redemption (2nd place) and Waack Out Loud (3rd place).
The 15-member Romancon mixed varsity squad danced powerfully in sync and emerged as the best among 9 finalist contenders for the AGC Adults Champion title in the AGC hangugdaepyoseonbaljeon World Final competitions held on October 27 at the Seoul Olympic Park South Korea haendeubolgyeong-gijang.
The DLS-CSB resident dance team, known for presenting socially relevant dance performances, specifically neo-classical ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop, proudly sang the Philippine National Anthem at the closing ceremonies to honor the country’s champion dance company.
Asked to introduce themselves to the audience after their performance, the Romancon troupe declared, “We are from the Philippines!” The group also shared their excitement at participating at the 2019 AGC after preparing for months.
The group went on social media to thank their supporters saying how proud they are for having “Slayed the world stage” while being “more than grateful to represent the country, the College, and most of all the art of dancing!”
The award-winning Benildean dance group was invited by AGC founder Austin Jiseong Heo to participate in the 2019 AGC after seeing them perform in an international dance tilt.
Romancon, mentored by Xernan Alfonso, is the 3-peat winner of the Hong Kong Challenge Cup Dance Competition, bagging multiple gold wins in 2018, 2017, and 2016.
