Batangueño Joemari Manguiat brought honor to the Philippines after winning the 2020 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Identity Logo Design Competition.
The Pinoy graphic artist from Lipa City bested other artists from across the region who submitted their logo entries during the competition from September to November 2019.
Manguiat received his prize during the awarding ceremony held in the third week of January 2020 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta. Second went to Myanmar and the third prize to Malaysia.
Manguiat’s award-winning logo was inspired from a “blossoming flower” that represents the prosperity and unity among the countries in Southeast Asia.
The ten circular petals in white and yellow were said to symbolize the unity of the ASEAN members states.
Moreover, the blue and red were derived from the most common colors present among the flags of ASEAN countries.
The Filipino-designed logo will be featured throughout the year in various materials and ASEAN-related events.
The ASEAN Secretariat organized the logo design competition to cultivate the ASEAN identity in young people’s mind across the region.
More Pinoy artists and designers have been making headlines across the world for showcasing the Filipino talent and ingenuity.
Mishael Jacob Pueblas of Davao made history by winning the Top 3 for the Laussane 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Medal Design Competition.
Metal artist-sculptor Daniel dela Cruz designed the medals awarded for winners at the 30th Southeast Asian Games hosted by the Philippines from November to December last year.
