Angeles City Science High School’s (ACSHS) team of student scientists finished strong at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Arizona.
The Pampanga team came close to winning as one of the 4 awardees of the Acoustical Society of America. ACSHS was awarded an Honorable Mention.
The student entry titled “Hibla: An Alternative Sound Absorption Material” was their winning project at 2018 Regional and National Science and Technology Fair.

The students researched and conducted experiments on fiber pretreatment and nonwoven fabric production. They were assisted by the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) technology.

The trio of science students was part of the 12-member Team Philippines at Intel ISEF sponsored by Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF). The delegation includes Iloilo City’s Maria Isabel Layson who discovered properties in aratiles fruits that can possibly cure diabetes.

The foundation feted the 12 young Filipino scientists upon their return to the Philippines in May. Layson delivered a speech on behalf of the 12 students, thanking their sponsors for helping them prepare, compete, and learn at the event organized by the Society for Science & the Public.
