A group of Gen Z innovators from De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Senior High School (DLSU-D SHS) is asking the big question: Can student elections be made better with a homegrown digital voting system? Their answer is DEMOS—short for Digital Election Mandate Online System.
Created by DLSU-D SHS student Christopher Stephen Guerzo and his team—Gjheanna Andrea C. Constantino, Aliyah Kirsten R. Corpuz, Hans Michael C. Dayondon, Trina Joyce M. Cabrera, and Rachel Louissee M. Gapaz—the platform aims to simplify campus elections using secure, accessible technology.
“DEMOS was born from a simple goal: to make elections more efficient and accessible for our fellow students,” said Guerzo. “I’ve personally seen how tiring manual elections can be. We wanted to offer a better way—not just for today, but for the next generation of student leaders.”
Students can vote anytime, anywhere with their school-issued ID and account—using a phone, tablet, or laptop. The platform was inspired by Estonia’s global model for electronic voting and developed over nearly a year under the guidance of mentor Carl Albert Lozada.
DEMOS launched during the March 2025 transport strike, aligning with DLSU-D’s shift to online classes and its updated Election Code, which permits remote voting during class disruptions.
Students who tested the system praised its ease of use—even on slow internet. “It was fun designing DEMOS and hearing students say it looked great,” said Corpuz and Cabrera. Constantino added, “I wouldn’t have learned many of these tools if it weren’t for DEMOS.”
Feedback highlighted the platform’s strengths in security, accessibility, and user experience, with only minor suggestions for visual improvements.
More than a tech achievement, DEMOS reflects a Lasallian vision of inclusive and sustainable governance—proof that change can start in the classroom, powered by young Filipino minds.
