A new policy to allow free entrance to the National Museum of the Philippines can now be enjoyed by visitors of the National Museum and its branches in the country.
The National Museum announced it will no longer charge admission fees beginning July 1st.
The museum previously charged varying fees to local and foreign visitors.
It also until recently offered free general admission to the public during National Heritage Month in May, National Arts Month in February, and National Museums and Galleries Month in October.
The announcement posted on the museum’s Facebook page explained the Board of Trustees’ decision to offer free general admission “in order to build upon significant spikes in viewership, especially among younger Filipinos, that have been observed in 2013-2015 and to date in 2016, when general admission has been made free of charge” during the said special months of observation.
“Enhancing universal access by all Filipinos to what we proudly exhibit as our national patrimony and heritage has always been a primary concern, and with this new policy we hope to reach more people than ever before, both by encouraging visits to our museums, and by bringing the National Museum's programs and resources to communities throughout the national capital and all the regions of our archipelago,” the notice said.
The post also said the museum will be supported by funds from the national budget.
