Is this your usual answer whenever someone asks how you are?
Even though you don’t feel good, you still say, “I’m okay.”
“I’m okay” or “I’m fine” is the default response of most people even if they are not doing okay or fine. Why?
Maybe they do not want to bother others or do not want to talk about it.
They believe that if they say otherwise, then they will need to talk about it and might end up shouting at each other, blaming each other.
But this is what I’ve realized, remaining silent will not solve anything. Avoiding a problem will not solve it, but will only make it worse.
I want to highlight the importance of being honest with others and yourself at all times. Saying, “I’m okay” when you are not is one form of disrespecting others and even yourself, because you are LYING.
So if you want to be true to yourself, think about doing these…
BE HONEST
Tell your friends and loved ones that you are not okay. And if you’re not ready to elaborate, request for time to sort things out. Sometimes, you just need to cool off, but at least the people around you know what you are truly feeling.
There’s no other way but to be honest! I know it isn’t easy but you need to be honest and true.
DECIDE
Decide what?
Decide what your next step is. You can’t just be honest but keep everyone in the dark. People around you are concerned and they need to know your decision, your next step.
Being honest paves the way for possibilities regarding the decision you will make. So don’t stop by just saying, “I’m okay” even if you’re not.
THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.
Are you really okay? If not, then you need to be honest with yourself so that you can make the right decisions toward solving your problems.
IT IS BETTER TO BE HONEST RATHER THAN PRETENTIOUS.
