Disney Pixar artist Bobby Rubio has honored health workers with a drawing of his “Float” Filipino-American child character expressing the traditional Filipino gesture of “Mano Po” as a sign of respect to medical frontliners in the fight against the coronavirus disease.
Pinoy at Pixar (Pixnoy) Filipino – American Bobby Rubio drew his floating little boy holding the hand of a doctor and pressing it to his forehead as a gesture of respect. Rubio uploaded the artwork on his Facebook page and Instagram on April 17, 2020. His post was posted on Pixar’s Instagram on April 22.
“THANK YOU to all #HealthcareWorkers #EssentialWorkers #Frontlineworkers for being out there, saving lives and helping us through this Pandemic,” Rubio wrote in his gratitude post to COVID-19 frontliners.
“I want you to know it is much appreciated! #Mano #ManoPo is an honoring gesture used in the #Filipino culture. 🇵🇭 I honor ALL you #Frontline heroes!” Rubio added.
Bobby also said in his post that he personally knew some frontliners. “I have family and friends out there, risking their lives every day.”
Netizens were quick to send their appreciation to Bobby Rubio and Pixar.
Maria Isabel said the artwork reminds her of when she was in the Philippines. “When my grandmother came home from church we would gather in front of her. With our heads bowed down, we would take her right hand and place it on our foreheads as a blessing from God. Thank you for bringing that memory to me this morning,” she shared.

Bobby Rubio wrote and directed the Spark Shorts film “Float”, the first Pixar film starring Filipino-American animated characters.
The Filipino-American Pixar artist has been paying tribute to his heritage in various projects, including a comic book project called “Neighborhood Legend” featuring a Filipino-American superhero named Dan Reyes who wields the Arnis.
