The story about an 11-year-old girl who won 3 gold medals, wearing improvised shoes that she just whipped-up herself, has been going around social media in the last few days as it caught the admiration and fascination of netizens.

Rhea Bullos of Balasan from Salvacion Elementary School in Iloilo has proven that poverty should not stop anyone from aspiring and reaching their dream; instead of being burdened with helplessness she proved that by turning to talent, using ingenuity, a little bit of humor, and having grit and sheer determination, anyone can accomplish anything and do great things.

The girl actually won three gold medals in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events at the Iloilo Schools Sports Council Meet held from December 7 to 12 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Bullos defeated other competitors who were wearing rubber shoes while she herself was wearing makeshift shoes made from medical bandage which she just fashioned together.

Well, she deserves another award in anyone’s book with her having crafted her shoes with such durability that it lasted and did not fall apart while running long-distance athletic events. Plus, the humor she injected in it as she drew the Nike brand swoosh logo on it, is the clincher.

Filipino children have shown grit and determination for their dreams and causes, among them, Dagul the 12-year-old volunteer teacher in the remote villages of Sorsogon and Baste, the child star, who visits hospital patients to spread good cheer.

SEND cheers in the comments below to Rhea Bullos for her ingenuity that helped her win gold medals!
