Two leading Asian finance magazines have given excellence awards to Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
In separate citations, the Asian Banking and Finance (ABF) and Alpha Southeast Asia (ASA) awarded BPI’s investment arm, BPI Capital, trade and supply chain team, and global markets segment.
The 2019 ABF Wholesale Banking Awards held in July in Singapore commended BPI with the following awards:
* Domestic Foreign Exchange Bank of the Year
* Domestic Project Finance Bank of the Year – Philippines for the MPCALA Holdings, Inc. project
* Best Trade Finance bank
The Alpha Southeast Asia Awards 2019 announced in June its recognition of BPI with the following citations:
* Best Trade Finance Bank in the Philippines
* BPI Capital as the Best Investment Bank in the country
* Best FX Bank for Corporates and Financial Institutions
* Best FX Bank for Retail Clients
“It is truly an honor to be recognized by these esteemed institutions,” said BPI Head of Corporate Banking John-C Syquia in a media release sent to Good News Pilipinas. “Our clients, who continue to trust us, and our dedicated employees, who are committed to exceed expectations, have made all these possible.”
ABF awarded BPI for outstanding practices and innovative strategies. As the leading foreign exchange bank in Southeast Asia, BPI’s presence in the Philippine foreign exchange, fixed income, and derivatives markets served as major drivers in enhancing service delivery. The synergy between treasury, credit, trade finance, and relationship management, as well as expertise in markets advisory, have led to a substantial volume turnover and a very significant market share in 2018 for its strong corporate treasury coverage. This has also led the bank to provide comprehensive proposals to clients with value-added propositions in its customized transaction handling, relevant financial solutions and servicing capabilities.
As for BPI Capital, the bank’s performance was propelled by pioneering innovations in the debt and equity capital markets, project finance, structured finance, advisory, M&A and merchant banking. Its recent strategic investment in the agriculture space also demonstrated the bank’s commitment to national development.
Asian Banking and Finance Magazine is the leading publication for banking and finance executives in Asia. It focuses on commercial and retail banking and on securities market from a banking perspective. On the other hand, Alpha Southeast Asia is an institutional investment magazine focused on Southeast Asia. Both utilized robust and rigorous methodologies in ranking nominated banks in the region.
In 2018, BPI also garnered awards from the same Asian finance magazines.
Earlier this year, BPI had received several awards including being named by the Global Finance Magazine as a top innovator, Best Bank at the Corporate Treasurer Awards, and BPI economist Emilio Neri Jr. as one of Asia’s top researchers at the Asset Awards.
