A new yellow bus for Filipino children, dubbed the nuLab, is hitting Philippine roads as it looks for future scientists and innovators.
The nuLab bus is fitted with technology gadgets such as laboratory facilities, modern audio-visual and educational tools and equipment, and various learning materials for students.
The nuLab tools will be used in introducing concepts and developing skills to 24 students per session. The yellow bus can hold two sessions per day.
Fifteen scientists and former Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars designed the modules for the nuLab sessions, according to the DOST release sent to Good News Pilipinas.
The nuLab was presented to the public during the opening of the 2019 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on July 17 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute’s (DOST-SEI) says the bus would allow the Filipino youth to discover their potential in the various fields of Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics (STEM) and eventually pursue courses and careers along these lines.
Award-winning television host Chris Tiu was also recently brought on board as DOST Ambassador to encourage Filipino youth to get into STEM studies.
“As the nuLab hits the road, it is our way of reaching out to every young Filipino in different sides of the country. It is also our way of providing them access to various advanced learning tools in the field of science and technology,” said DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña.
Students selected for nuLab sessions will be encouraged to apply for the DOST undergraduate scholarship program called “#Push4science : Maging DOST Scholar Ka!”
