Pinoy at Pixar (Pixnoy) Bobby Rubio’s all-Filipino CGI short film, Float, is apparently nearing its release date going by the social media post of Pixar short film producer David Lally.
Lally tweeted on February 26 a video clip montage of the new 3 Spark Shorts including Rubio’s Float along with two other short films, Wind and Loop, captioned with, “If you’ve enjoyed our #SparkShorts so far, you’re going to love the next three films from directors
@Bobby_Rubio, Edwin Chang, and @ericaoherica!!”
A follow up tweet focused on Rubio’s Float and an introduction to the Filipino characters.
“A father discovers that his son floats, which makes him different from other kids. When his son’s ability becomes public, Dad must decide whether to run and hide or to accept his son as he is.”

Rubio announced in January his writing and directing of Float whose two main characters are Filipino-American declaring the work as Pixar’s first CGI Filipino characters – the true first Pixnoys.
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity to tell our stories and share them with the world!
When I was growing up, I didn’t see much characters that looked like me on television or movies and I am thrilled that my children will have these guys and hopefully they are just the beginning and will inspire more Filipino-American stories to come!” wrote Rubio on his Instagram post of the boy character he created for Float.
Pixar released a video of the Spark Shorts project to allow its animators to tell their own stories, including Bobby Rubio talking about his film. The first three Spark Shorts were premiered on February 4 on the Pixar YouTube channel.
