Three Filipino-American artists received the 42nd Annual Excellence in Theatre Awards from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle.
The Critics Circle is composed of reviewers from all media platforms who cover all nine Bay Area counties and give the annual excellence awards for superior work in theatre.
Robert Brill won for his set design on Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations.
Fil-Am Robert Brill, a designer for theatre, opera and dance for over 3 decades, was recognized for his Set Design for “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations,” a musical about the greatest R&B group of all time.
Brill designed the set for the Berkeley Repertory Theatre production in a house with more than 300 seats.
Robert Brill Design credits include receiving a Tony nomination for his set design work on Broadway’s “Assassins” and the critically acclaimed revival of “Cabaret” among other major productions.
Actors Rinabeth Apostol (L) and Tiffany Villarin (M) were co-awardees as Principal Actress in a Play, for “Peerless,” a dark comedy play about twins “M” and “L” who engage in bloody extracurricular activities to ensure their success in the academic world.
“Peerless” is produced by the Marin Theatre Company and written by Jiehae Park.
Rinabeth Apostol and Tiffany Villarin essay the roles of twins plotting bloody extracurricular activities to ensure their academic success.
Apostol’s website describe her as an actor, singer, dancer, print/lifestyle/arts model and voiceover actor who has appeared in theatre, film, television, new media, industrials and commercials, video games and children’s toys.
Apostol is also a teaching artist who lectures and conducts workshops in various middle, high schools and colleges about all aspects of theatre education.
Villarin’s IMDb bio credits her for being known for her role in the TV series Gotham, the Blacklist and Mass Romantic.
Villarin’s theatre credits include her joining the cast of “Teenage Dick” to be staged in June and July 2018, Do You Feel Anger, House Rules among other critically acclaimed plays.
The three Fil-Am artists join an elite roster of award recipients of the Annual Excellence in Theatre Awards from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle established in 1976.
