A Young Filipina Warrior Princess has made history on the international tennis courts. Alex Eala, the unseeded Filipina tennis wonder won the Les Petits As-Le Mondial Lacoste Girls Singles Championship Match in Tarbes, France.
The 12-year old Alex beat the tournament’s 7th seed Czech player L. Noskova in three-thrilling sets 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.
The Asian Tennis Federation currently ranks Alex as the top singles player in the under-14 age bracket.
After this historic victory, Eala is eyeing stints in the Grand Slam juniors when she turns 13 in May.
“I want to play in as many tournaments as I can,” said Eala. “I need to start building my ITF ranking to qualify for the Grand Slams.”
In 2017, Eala played in 15 tournaments and ended the year with a finals appearance in the Orange Bowl Tennis Championship 12s in Coral Gables, Florida, and now she kicked off 2018 with a historic win in the French tournament.
“She really loves what she does, and we as a family are behind her every step of the way,” said her father, Michael.
The 7th grader at Colegio San Agustin made the semifinals of the Eddie Herr International Juniors prior to the Orange Bowl.
She also reached the main draws or further in La Perre Young Championship Cup in Belgium, International Deutch Tennis 14-U in Germany and Balle Mimosa Loire-Arlentique, among others.
Apart from her singles triumphs, Eala is also a top doubles player having won 5 tournaments with an incredible 25 match winning streak in the Young Stars Tournaments in Europe.
