Sleep late … Wake up late…
Facebook all day…
TV and gadget all day…
Consistently unproductive.
Do you know anyone who does absolutely nothing for the whole day?
Why are there people who are lazy?
I realize that all of us have somehow gone through a season of lethargy or idleness, where we have no energy to get out of bed every morning, to go to school, to report for work, or to do anything else.
Whether we admit it or not, we have experienced laziness in one way or another. We can be diligent when it comes to our work, but lazy in exercising. We can be diligent in preparing and cooking food, but lazy when it comes to cleaning the house. It can be a real challenge to counter laziness. We want to change and become more industrious in everything that we do, but we can’t do it because of laziness.
But before we can even counter laziness, we should be aware of the possible reasons why we feel lethargic at times.
TIRED AND OVERWORKED
When we have already accomplished so much, we want to just shut down. We feel drained of our energy, so what we want is to just do nothing.
INFLUENCE
Maybe you are surrounded by people who are generally lazy, who don’t have much drive and are unproductive in life. And you find yourself being dragged into this kind of lifestyle. Oftentimes, people who have no drive become lazier and lazier because they know they can rely on other people to work things out for them, to sustain them and give them financial support. They don’t exert effort to even help in simple house chores because they depend on their mother or spouse to do this anyway. They don’t exert effort in their studies, in reviewing for exams because they know they can just get answers from their classmates. Maybe when there is no other recourse, then and only then will they force themselves to work hard?
HABIT
With so many gadgets, games, TV shows, You Tube, Facebook and other social media sites, online shopping and chatting with neighbors, there is so much to do! All these can take away one’s drive to work harder. So idleness or laziness has become a habit that is difficult to break.
Or perhaps you have grown up with this attitude which you will carry until you grow old.
LOSS OF DIRECTION
Loss of motivation. No plans in life. Lack of discipline. No drive. Loss of hope. Perhaps you have experienced deep disappointments in life, which took away your drive. You refuse to give it another try in fear of failing again. So you prefer the lethargic life.
LOW SELF-ESTEEM
You don’t have confidence in yourself and in what you can do. You feel weak, so you just let others act and are satisfied in being left behind. You don’t have anything to contribute anyway.
You feel you don’t have what it takes to succeed. You don’t trust yourself.
So you chose to be lazy, just because.
These are just some of the reasons why a person can be lazy, lethargic or idle. Perhaps some of us can relate to this. Whatever our reasons are for being lazy, I hope we realize that there are people around us who are affected by this poor choice. If the tiny ant can choose to do diligent work, then we sure can do better because we have the mind, the skill and the intelligence to do so. Let us not waste each minute, hour, day or season in our lives in just being lazy. Life is too short to spend doing nothing. Let’s live it to the fullest, so that when we look back on it later on we will not be filled with regrets and “what ifs”. It is not too late to change. Start now. Don’t be lazy!
