A Philippine hiking team have conquered Hong Kong’s complex 102-kilometre trails in the Oxfam Trailwaker, one of the Hong Kong’s biggest sports and charity events.
Led by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in Hong Kong, Team 0383, the Oxfam Trailwaker gathers the most intrepid hikers in Hong Kong (and overseas), to conquer a 102-kilometre trail within 48 hours, from November 20 to 22.
Team 0383 finished the trail way ahead of schedule on November 21st at 11:20pm.
The teams go through a rigid selection process. Out of the more than 4,000 teams (four in each team) applying for a slot every year, only 900 teams are given the opportunity to take on the challenge.
The Maclehose trail consists of 10 stages of varying terrain and difficulty. Each team is required to pass through checkpoints every stage and complete the trail together. The record time is just under 12 hours while the majority takes from 20-45 hours. As first timers, we aim to finish within 35 hours.
Our goal is to raise the profile of Filipinos in Hong Kong (what better way to do this than hike 102 kilometres for the Philippines!), promote good health and well-being, and raise funds for Oxfam’s projects that aim to alleviate poverty and combat climate change.
