Pinoy bands roll out talents in MTV Emerge

Unsigned Pinoy bands have conquered cyberspace as MTV Emerge provides them with a platform to break into the local and international music scene through a one-year recording contract with Jeepney Music and Black Eyed Peas member Apl.de.ap’s record label.
Seven musicians will “get the opportunity to break out of anonymity and win international acclaim through cyberspace.” By uploading their videos on MTVemerge.com, unsigned musicians were invited to share a sample of their original music together with their photos and profile. The best performances were voted by the online community.
As Michael Jackson showcases his off-the-record rehearsals in “This is it”, the unsigned Pinoy bands will have the opportunity to exemplify their never-before-seen performances to the world.
Apl.de.ap will introduce the top seven finalists on November 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. Rico Blanco and Karylle will join the Black Eyed Peas artist in choosing the best bands out of more
than 1,700 entries.
The handpicked finalists will enjoy artist management and promotion, digital distribution of three to six songs, and a strategic marketing plan for them to break in the international market.
On his role to help bringing more unsigned Pinoy bands into the music industry, Apl.de.ap shared, “I want to encourage Filipino musicians to create more original stuff and not be scared to represent and talk about our culture. I want to create a venue for their music to be heard.”
MTV Emerge is a collaboration of MTV, Secretary Ace Durano of Department of Tourism (DOT), and Jeepney Music to provide Filipino bands the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents and let their homegrown music emerge in the local and international scenes.”

“MTV has always tried to encourage and promote good quality music. To stay true to its mission, MTV came up with another ground-breaking platform to discover underground talents that is MTV Emerge,” said Ji Hee Nam, Digital Media Cluster Head of MTV SEA and Greater China, on innovative MTV Emerge campaign. MTV chose to collaborate with the Philippines “because music is a very strong part of the cultural heritage of the country and we (MTV) just see so much potential in the fun, young and vibrant Filipinos.”
According to Durano, “MTV is about youth, culture and music. It’s the perfect place for the Filipino music to thrive and a great avenue for local music to reach the world.”
Another component of the collaboration is the song and the video “Take U to the Philippines” written by Apl.de.ap, and produced in collaboration with DOT Secretary Ace Durano. The video showcases “eminent local destinations in mixed motion graphics to highlight how lively and dynamic the Philippines is.”
