The Philippine baseball team went undefeated in four games to rule the 2012 East Asia Cup Baseball Championship at the Queen Sirikit Diamond in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Filipino batters swept all their matches including a 3-1 demolition of the 2007 Southeast Asian Games champions Thailand in the championship round.

“Our athletes have endured serious training in the past months. They have worked so hard to get into tip-top shape and all those sacrifices paid off,” said head coach Wilfredo Hidalgo.

The Philippines, led by veteran pitchers Darwin dela Calzada and Jonjon Robles, earlier turned back Hong Kong, 3-1, then blanked Singapore, 16-0, and Myanmar, 13-0, before facing the host country.

Other seasoned members of the team are Ernesto Binarao, Charlie Labrador, Vladimir Eguia, Romeo Jasmin, Fulgencio Rances, Francis Candela, Junifer Pinero, Joseph Orillana, Reuben Angeles and Jonash Ponce.

They will represent the region in the prestigious 2012 Asian Baseball Championship scheduled on November 28 to December 2 in Taiwan.
