“American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez is set to perform in the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
In her official Twitter account, Sanchez said she is honored to be part of the much-awaited political event.
“I might not be old enough to vote, but I’m so honored and excited to perform at @BarackObama’s big party in Charlotte next week! #DNC2012,” she said.
Aside from Sanchez, mixmaster DJ Cassidy and American saxophonist Branford Marsalis are also set to perform at the DNC on Wednesday.
Grammy winners James Taylor and Mary J. Blige, meanwhile, will be featured in the DNC event at the Bank of America Stadium on Thursday, which also includes the Foo Fighters, Earth, Wind and Fire, Delta Rae, Inspire the Fire and Marc Anthony.
Cassidy will also headline the acts on Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Arena, as well as American singer-songwriter Ledisi and “Glee”’s Amber Riley.
In a statement, DNC chairman Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said: “This roster of performances only adds to the excitement building in Charlotte for the historic week ahead of us.”
“The tens of thousands who will attend Convention events in person, and all those tuning in across the country, should be ready for quite a show,” Villaraigosa added.
