Filipino Entrepreneur Wins Best CEO Award in Mongolia

It was an unexpected yet well-deserved recognition for young Filipino Entrepreneur Carlo Sampan, who became the recipient of the Best CEO Award in the recently concluded Ecopreneur International Business Competition in Ulaanbatar, Mongolia.

From June 19-22, the competition took place with the theme “Planet first” to promote the business ideas made by the green entrepreneurs, initiatives, and the entrepreneurs who run the eco- friendly businesses, to make them to challenge these initiatives, experiences, knowledge and to introduce these business ideas internationally.

The participants were aged between 16 35 years old, and this year’s roster of finalists summed a total of 42 teams from 27 countries including Russian Federation, Peoples’ Republic of China, Columbia, Taiwan, India, Burkina Faso, Malaysia, Indonesia, Argentina, United States of America, Bolivia, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Mongolia, Turkey and Costa Rica. Additionally, the entrepreneurship, innovation experts, representatives from the venture foundations, university and college professors from United States of America, Japan, Taiwan, Panama, Argentina, Spain, New Zealand, Israel, South Korea, Turkey, Grenada, Gambia, Indonesia and Malaysia have come as the representatives of the judges and advisors.

Sampan’s “mean green campaign” garnered him the title Best CEO. This social campaign that involved a clear and creative business model and framework got him through the finals, and was applauded for the response to the judges’ questions. Part of the prize is to represent the country in the succeeding international competitions under the Global TIC organization. He graduated from the University of the Philippines and took up Bachelor of Science in Community Development, and finished his Master’s Degree in Marketing Communications in De La Salle University.

The concept of ‘Ecopreneur’ is derived from ‘Entrepreneur’, which means the business cleverness and skills. Thus, ecopreneur means the entrepreneurs who run the eco- friendly business activities, understanding the relations between environment, society, and human beings. In order to bring the new concepts of ecopreneurs and to make it fundamental point and philosophy for the Mongolian entrepreneurs, Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry is promoting and collaborating the Ecopreneur program.

The competition was organized under the Global TIC (Talentpreneur, Innovation and Collaboration), which holds various business competitions in the United States of America, Asia, and South America.
