The Philippines is among the least rude countries for foreign tourists, a survey by a leading European travel site revealed.
Filipino’s came in at 33rd position, a ranking at the rear of the list which is deemed to be more polite and the least rude. Joining the Philippines on the lower third of the ranking are the Thais, Brazilians and the Portuguese.
France is considered the world’s rudest nation followed by Russia and the United Kingdom, according to the poll conducted by Skyscanner.
“Taking 19 percent of the vote, the French have long been known for their abrupt and curt nature, especially when dealing with foreign tourists, which has often been taken as rudeness by visitors,” Skyscanner said.
Russia got 17 percent and 10 percent for UK.
“Russians can be more direct when talking, which may be misconstrued as being rude,” said Tatiana Danilova, Russian market manager for Skyscanner. “However this is more a difference in culture than genuine rudeness.”
Danilova attributed this to the Russian language, which “is not as polite as English…”
“So when Russians translate directly from Russian to English, it can sound rude to an English speaker even if they don’t mean it to,” Danilova. “Russians tend to consider British people extremely polite due to their courteous way of speaking.”
Here’s the list:
World’s rudest nationalities:
- French 19.2%
- Russian 16.6%
- British 10.4%
- German 9.9%
- Chinese 4.3%
- American 3.3%
- Spanish 3.1%
- Italian 2.3%
- Polish 2.2%
- Turkish 2.1%
Bringing up the rear of the list, and thus deemed the most polite, were the following countries:
- Japan
- Denmark
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Indonesia

Hello,
i’m a German and my experience is, that such statistics are a very subjective thing. I know a lot of Russians who are very polite, but since i can speak a bit Russian i can just agree to Danilova. French sounds also very charming and british english also. In compare the US English is not like that. I know more rude Americans than rude Russians. Germans were valued on another statisticas very nice tourists, but stingy and demanding, therefore Americans as rude but undemanding. And, last but not least, i know many Filipinos who are indeed very caring and kind. But if you are not around they know a lot of bad words and tell it to you if you are not fulfil what they expected. At the end: The culture and language influences all that a lot, how the people of a nation are. And – we are in first line humans and they are the same.
