3 Pinoy nature sites in Top 10 of 7 WoN

Palawan’s Tubbataha Reef, Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, and Puerto Princesa’s Underground River are now all in the Top 10 in the recent count of the New Seven Wonders of Nature survey.

Palawan’s Tubbataha Reef has moved within the Magic 7 moving up the standings from 8th to 6th place. Bohol’s Chocolate Hills inched its way up from 9th to 8th position, and Puerto Princesa’s Underground River kept solid hold on 10th place.

The biggest move was made by Mayon Volcano in Albay which gained 6 places from 30th spot to 24th, as another key Philippine nature wonder creates an impact in the poll.

Last May 17, the Switzerland-based New7Wonders Foundation announced that Brazil’s Statue of Christ Redeemer, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Mexico’s Chichen Itza pyramid, Great Wall of China, Jordan’s Petra, the Colosseum in Rome and India’s Taj Mahal were the winners in the first search for the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The winners in the search, which was launched in 1999, were selected through a tally of around 100 million votes cast by people around the world over the Internet and by cellular phone text messages.

The second search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature organized by the non-profit foundation generated about 200 nominations within the first few months of the campaign. About half a million people submitted their nominations.

Search organizers said nominations for the new campaign ends on Dec. 31 this year, after which a panel of experts would come up with a shortlist of 21 candidates.

Voters from around the globe will cast their vote for the new Seven Wonders of Nature from the shortlist of 21 candidates.

    I’m happy, as always, about the result but I guess such a system of online voting for best natural wonders of the world is quite… you know.

  3. I’m happy that 4 of our wonders soar to top 10 of this years new seven wonders of nature. I am one of the voters who voted all of our natural wonders who listed in Asia. I voted many times just to place our natural wonders in the list of 77. I used even the email add of my classmates just to top the Philippine traesures for this great endeavor. Thanks for this site for having a great and optimistic articles about goodnews about the Pearl of the orient seas.

  5. Its truly amazing fate for these 4 Philippine candidates which deserves such recognition in the world. Its proven that Filipinos are the most united people in the world. We prove many times that on-line voting makes any philippine candidate a win-win situation above the rest…
